Once you pay to upgrade, you have to wait for the upgrade to deliver. The hack makes the upgrade deliver instantly.

Don't upgrade too fast and don't upgrade past your level. Meaning, if you're level one, and your grenade is max level is like asking the developers to ban you. Upgrade slowly.

Your answer is incomplete. You didn't specify which iOS version therefore misleading people into thinking that the same limit applies on iOS 8 & 9 also.

iOS 10 has a 3 sideloaded app per device limit now.
