Updating your OS isn’t as major as having to upgrade your whole phone or replace a battery. I’m unsure if they can slow down old operating systems without a small update. Unless they have like a lever they pull and it automatically slows them down?

That’s what I thought, but they did this without users knowledge. If they could have warned them via a popup inside the OS, it would have been better so the user gets to decide whether to use the old or replace his/her battery. Either way, admitting this damages the company because then users will know that they need to spend more money to replace their batteries every 1-2 years.

Apple is probably not the only company doing this. No, Apple stated this themselves. Perhaps yes. That could be another perk of them slowing down old devices. As I stated above, I’ve had the unexpected shutdown problems on my old i6 on iOS 8.4.

So it turns out our conspiracy theory was true. Apple officially stated that they’re slowing down old iPhones with bad batteries. I’ve had an iPhone 6 on iOS 8.4 for a while and eventually it would shut off at 30% out of nowhere. In the recent iOS versions, Apple has addressed this issue by limiting the CPU performance so that it’s less power hungry which in turn should be more friendly with old batteries and stop the unexpected shutdowns. Replacing your battery with a new one will boost your performance back up. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think they should have notified their users instead? Or do you think they should slow the iPhones down and notify their users that it’s being slowed down and a new battery is required?
