I think AVPlayer can read subtitles. Sometimes the subtitle needs to be the same name as the video file. Also try VLC for Mobile and MX Video Player.

I prefer AVPlayer. But that doesn't magically add subtitles. I don't think there are any apps that adds subtitles without supplying them.
