It's not supposed to let you play games longer, it's supposed to make your iPhone last longer so you can use it in crucial moments. It's probably like Android's battery saver option. Just disables background processes and background app refreshing to give you a few more minutes of battery.

You should use Semi-Restore.com. I've used it twice on my iPad and it runs without an issue.
