I like it, especially the colours. For your first "gfx" it's actually good. The only thing that bothers me is that it isn't an actual (perfectly) round circle. To make a perfect round circle: use the elliptical marquee tool (M) then hold SHIFT while you're making the circle. Except for that, it's good.

No he doesn't, now this is obviously personal preference but I think the majority of people will agree that it should stay as it is. The logo is supposed to be the center of attention, not the background. The background as it is, grey and plain with the vignette. It makes the logo stand out more.
