I have done what you are attempting , I have iPhone 4 on iOS 7 , when Apple stopped signing 7 I had me a little crash but could not install iOS 7 for some reason so I installed 5.1.1 , let me see if I can find anything I noted down. So what tool are you using ? From some posts and notes I made I see I used "Absinthe" to jailbreak 5.1.1. You can Just install XCode. It's available for free from the App Store. It will install all the command line tools as well. In order for Xcode to install the command-line tools, you need to go in the Terminal app and run xcode-select --install. In order to start a Terminal, hold Command+SPACEBAR and start typing Terminal till it guesses you mean the Terminal app and then hit Enter. Note, if you are using a fairly recent version of OS X, you don't need to do anything more than install Xcode. The bare OS actually ships with shims for all the tools in /usr/bin, which if run will tell you how to get Xcode.
