Written Tutorial:
 
1. Make a random pattern 
2. Add it to symbols
3. Make a circle 
4. Delete it's left anchor point (use the Direct Selection Tool (A)
5. Select the rest of the circle and go to: Effect > 3D > Revolve
6. Click on "Map Art..."
7. Add your symbol
8. Click on "Shade Artwork", "Invinsible Geometry" and "Preview"
9. Click on "Scale to Fit" and then tweak it to the way you like it, or just position it yourself the way you like it without scaling it to fit
10. Click on "OK", then "Preview", and rotate the object to the way you want it and make sure it dosnt have any weird parts (from the map art)
11. Change the lighting to the way you want it and click "OK"
12. Select your your object and go to: Object > Expand Appearance
13. Select your object again and ungroup it twice (right-click the object and click on "Ungroup")
14. Separate the front half from the back part
15. Add the glass sphere in to the objects middle (make sure the glass sphere's opacity is 40% or something close to it) 
16. Select the front half and bring it to the front (right-click the object > Arrange > Bring to Front (Shift + Ctrl + ]) 
17. Place the front half on top of the glass sphere
18. Place the shadow under the object and send it to the back (right-click the shadow > Arrange > Send to Back (Shift + Ctrl + [))
18. Zoom in and aligin everything properly
 
To create the shadow, do the following:
 
1. Make a ellipse (Ellipse Tool (L)) 
2. Open the gradients window (Window > Gradient (Ctrl + F9))
3. Select the "White, Black" gradient from the preset gradients
4. Click on the white gradient slider and change it's opacity to 0%
5. Change the gradient type from "Linear" to "Radial"
6. Click on the "Reverse Gradient" button
7. Click on the Gradient Tool (G) 
8. Tweak the shadow a little bit
 
To create the glass sphere, do the following:
 
1. Make a cirlce (Ellipse Tool (L))
2. Open the gradients window (Window > Gradient (Ctrl + F9))
3. Select the "White, Black" gradient from the preset gradients
4. Click on the black gradient slider and change it's color from black to a light grey
5. Change the gradient type from "Linear" to "Radial"
6. Click on the Gradient Tool (G) 
7. Tweak it a little bit
8. Add some reflections and shiny parts
 
To create light reflections, do the following:
 
1. Make a cirlce (Ellipse Tool (L)) or some other shape using the Pen Tool (P)
2. Open the gradients window (Window > Gradient (Ctrl + F9))
3. Select the "White, Black" gradient from the preset gradients
4. Click on the black gradient slider and change it's color to white and it's opacity to 0%
6. Click on the Gradient Tool (G) 
7. Tweak it a little bit
8. Change the reflections opacity to something low
9. Add it to your glass sphere
