I would suggest , instead of trying random tricks , Why don't you go to the basic ‼️ These steps goes for your girlfriend and even for you : 1)go to settings --> switch off iMessage .( if using an Apple ID : sign out first and then switch off ) 2) settings --> general ---> Reset ---> Reset Network settings . ( it'll ask for your passcode ) 3) after the iDevice gets rebooted ---> go to Settings ---> General --> Date and Time ---> Male sure it's set to Automatic update ( also check the time zone ) 4) turn on iMessage ( also sign in with your Apple ID ) Try this , it solves most of the common bugs !
