The ps4 mods are based on a WebKit exploit and needs to be reapplied each time after restarting the system. 

To get started you need a PS4 with Firmware 5.05 or lower once you have that you load the webpage for the exploit select the options you’d like to use click the button to run the exploit and start enjoying homebrew.

How do u get a firmware and how do you check if ur PS4 has a firmware? And will I need to buy anything?

The firmware is just another name for the system software version. To check the your current firmware go to Settings>System>System settings and it is the System Software. 

If you have a ps4 on a low enough update you don’t need to buy anything, it’s all done from loading a webpage very similar to the new ps3 exploit.
