Here's my setup, 
iPad without any VPN + iPhone with VPN
whenever I can watch on my iPhone, i can watch on my iPad as well. But it shouldnt be the case as my ipad didnt have any vpn installed.

I was wondering is the app have some kind of log that keep your ip when login and it might be rewrite after some period of time. 

 

Yeah oddly enough this morning when I tried to view yesterday's archived games the same thing happened to me that you described (clicking on the red Buy Subscription button says you are already subscribed), yet I can still watch games via web browser on my PC.  Apparently this annoying issue seems to come and go, as I've heard of other folks reporting similar results.

Update--not sure if it's an issue with the India VPN connectivity or perhaps temporary issues on the NBA server backend, as I am able to watch games on my iDevices when I tried again a moment ago.

Yeah there may be more robust (i.e., reliable) India VPN mobileconfig profiles out there.

Re: no Airplane mode needed--I think what the deal with that was that there were some folks who are running older NBA app version and they noticed that when they backgrounded the NBA app in order to go turn off VPN, the NBA app would recycle/restart when they brought it back to the foreground.

I can indeed confirm your finding that you don't need to do the Airplane mode trick, just simply turning off VPN is enough; I'm almost certain it's because I am running the latest international NBA app version (71019) instead of the older versions that those guys are using.

I got no problem for web browser on computer whenever I want to watch a game, both live or archived, but what border me is that I would like to airplay the game to my apple TV from my iPad. And the app issue really annoyed me.

For my case, I have tried serval Indian VPNs and none of them allow me to watch game reliably. I checked my ip address every time I turned the VPN on and it shown a Indian ip. Thus, I guess its not the problem of VPN services. Also sometime I can watch game without turning VPN on before starting the app.

The app is pretty weird at this moment as I noticed something abnormal. If the app is checking your ip address every time you launched the app, then I shouldn't be able to watch game in the following 2 cases I encountered many time.

Case 1:
I turned VPN on and login the app and successfully watch game then I quitted the app, turned VPN off and some period later I go to the app again without any VPN, its still allow me to watch game. 

Case 2:
I turned on VPN on my iPhone and successfully watch game and at the same time my iPad can watch game as well but the iPad is not using any VPN. The only linkage between my iPhone and iPad is the NBA ac.

From this 2 cases, I was wondering the NBA will log or record your ip when you first launch the app and maybe store on their server. And this record will be rewrite after some period of time. That can explain why we cant watch game sometime as they might stored our non-indian ip on their server, but then later we tried again, they might have erased the old record. For example, the record will keep 2 hours after your login, and I first login with non-indian VPN at 1030 and the recorded this. And even I login with a indian VPN between 1030-1230, they still wont allow us to watch. But when we try again at say 1300, they erased old record and this time will record your ip again. This time if you are using a indian VPN, you can watch between 1300-1500, no matter you use VPN or not. Of course, this is my guess and I still need experiment with this guess.

Jus now I have tried to login in with VPN, its success and I force quitted the app and turned off VPN and launch the app again, still allow me to watch game. It seems my guess are somehow correct. See if anybody can figure out how long is the rewrite period of the app.

I understand the leagsepass for India is the cheapest, but just for your information. If you buy the mexican leaguepass, you don't need do you use any kind of vpn to watch the games, only to buy the subscription.

VPN trick takes like 1-2 min of your time, $15 versus how much for mexico price? just to avoid "loading VPN"? yea i'll stick to the cheapest! plus theres ways to get VPN for free, all u need is to point it to india & once the app starts you can turn it off.

Have you ever been shown "Buy subscription" button but you have purchased already? Do you have any idea to this problem? 
Mind trying to launch the NBA app without VPN and login once again with a VPN for testing?
