Have you tried turning on USB debugging mode? Do this: 1. Go to Settings then scroll down and tap About Phone 2. Scroll down to Build Number and tap it 7 times to enable developer menu 3. Go to Settings, then Developer Options, then Debugging and turn on USB Debugging. Now, swipe down the notification bar and you'll see USB for charging, tap on that and then change it to transfer files (MTP). You should now see your sdcard contents

It would help if you gave more info such as device model etc
