This seems like a connection error. Make sure you have the web version of iTunes installed and try a different USB (port).

Just go out, socialize, attend places, gatherings or just do what he likes doing/hobbies. He's likely to meet someone with similar interests. This is pre-covid advice though, now it's a bit tougher.
