Hello, Airplane mode "trick" has been around for a while now since we've moved onto semi-tethered Jailbreaks, so it's normal and judging from the past, it does increase chances of success depending on the Jailbreak. As for the issue you are having, it could be a Cydia Tweak or the Jailbreak itself. But look into your Tweaks first as one may be causing issues.
