Upgrading iPhone 5 from 7.0.3 to 7.1.2 - "firmware file not compatible"

I am trying to upgrade my jailbroken iPhone 5 from iOS 7.0.3 to 7.1.2 as more and more apps now require 7.1 to download!

I tried selecting the 7.1.2 ipsw file however I keep on getting on error saying "firmware file not compatible". I tried putting the phone to DFU mode with redsnow (my off button doesn't work) but nothing seems to work. When I click the normal "restore" it follows smoothly, prompting me if I'm sure I want to restore and upgrade to iOS8.3.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Better even, do you know how to by pass the iOS7.1 check when downloading from the app store (assuming the app will still run on the earlier iOS)

You can't upgrade to 7.1.2. You are forced to go on 8.3 - the latest iOS Version.

You can no longer update/restore to 7.1.2. Apple already stop signing that firmware. Regarding the apps check, even if you manage to install it, the app will not work.

From what I gathered you can't downgrade iOS 8.3 to iOS 8.1.2 (the latest version of iOS which can be jailbroken fully) right?

Thanks for clearing it up

Yes, you cannot downgrade to an older version of iOS 8 either. You're always stuck on the latest version of iOS unless Apple is signing older versions which currently isn't.

Edit the minimum os requirements in info.plist. Works for me everytime. Im on ios7.0 but im able to run apps with 7.1 as minimum requirements
