Tutorial Basic Useful Terminal Commands

Welcome to Basic Terminal Guide!

Requirement:
Terminal/SSH tools
Package For some commands that required (apt 0.7, coreutil, etc.)
Basic Understanding of command line.

Here are some useful command to get started with:

Change Directory
Command: cd

Go to the applications directory:
Usage: $ cd ~/Applications
Additional Condition:
"." current directory: 
".." up one level
"~" home directory

List Content of Current Directory
Command: ls

List all subdirectories recursively:
Usage: $ ls -R
Additional Condition:
-R recusrive 
-l long 
-a all files

Super User (Root privileges 777)
Command: su

The su (short for substitute user) command allows a user to become another user. Most commonly used to become the root user to perform commands which require root privileges.
Usage: $ su root
or
$ su
(short for super user)

Changing of Password
Command: passwd

Changing of password (default: alpine)
Usage: $ passwd

Moving of Files
Command: mv

usage: $ mv ./somedir/file1 ./somedir/file2

Copying of Files
Command: cp

usage: $ cp "/received/song.mp3" "/music/"

Remove file or dir
Command: rm or rmdir

Usage:$ 
File
rm /User/Downloads/CrackedOldIPA/12345cracked.ipa

or
Folder
rmdir /User/Downloads/CrackedOldIPA/

Making of Directory:
Command: mkdir

Usage:$ mkdir FOLDER

Show currently running process
Command: ps

Usage: $ ps -auxadv-cmds
Additional condition:
"-A" all processes
"-M" includes security info
"-U <user>" lists processes by userShow all running processes with useless ones trimmed

Killing Proc
Command: kill or killall

Usage:$ kill <pid>

or

Usage:$ killall SpringBoard

Condition:
PID: Process ID

Finds all files matching given attributes
Command: find

Usage: $ find -name iTunesMetadata.plist
Additional Condition:
"-name <name>" name of the file
"-exec <command>" command to run for each found filefind all iTunesMetadata.plist files

Show/Print Full Operating System
Command: uname - a

usage:$ uname -a

Print Device Info
Command: sw_vers

usage:$ sw_vers

Open the specified app (using com.bundle.identifier scheme)
Command: vim

Usage:$ vim <bundleID>

Respring Device
Command: sbreload

usage:$ sbreload

Secure Copy - use SSH for file transfer
Command: scp

usage:$ scp cydia.deb [email protected]:/root/cydia.deb
Example of copying cydia.deb to device @192.168.1.45*

Additional syntax:
"scp [options] <infile> <outfile>
<infile> and <outfile> can be local files such as /etc/apt/sources.list or remote files in the format <user>@<host>:<filename>"

Secure SHell - useful for remote access
Command: ssh

Usage:$ ssh [email protected]
systax:
ssh [options] [user@]<host>

Reloading iconcache
Command: uicache

Usage:$ uicache

Package Management (For Cydia)
Command: apt-cache / apt-get

List Package cache: apt-cache
Show the name of every package
Usage:$ apt-cache pkgnames

Additional syntax:
""showpkg <packageName>"" shows info about a package
""dump"" lists info about all packages (takes a LONG time)
""pkgnames"" lists names of all packages (takes a LONG time)

Manage Package: apt-get
Updating of Cydia source package
Usage:$ apt-get update

Additional Syntax:
"""update"" reload Cydia sources
""upgrade"" install all updates
""install <packageName>"" installs a package
""remove <packagename>"" removes a package"

There are many more commands available under /bin/ to look up for such as unzip, sudo, chmod, cat, jtools, etc etc. They are pretty advance for some new user, I will cover more in the next tutorial for advanced user.
