Mac OS High Sierra is Here! What's New?

 

Not too much has changed visually in High Sierra. Most of High Sierra's improvements and features are under the hood.

 

Main new features of Mac OS High Sierra (version 10.13):

• H.265/HEVC video codec support ("compresses video up to 40 percent more then H.264")
• Metal 2 (Improved graphics performace)
• Proper VR support
• External GPU support
• New APFS file system (APFS does not work with Fusion Drives and Hard Drives, SDDs only)
• Better Photos app
• Faster and "smarter Safari" (Safari 11)
• Added table view in Notes
• Mail uses spotlight search
• New emojis coming to macOS (also iOS and WatchOS).

 

Note: Apple will start to phase out support for 32-bit software in macOS and only 64-Bit apps will able to be submitted to the App Store from January 2018. 32-bit apps may not work in future versions of macOS.

 

Compatible Macs:

• MacBook Pro (2010 and later)
• MacBook (Late 2009 and later)
• MacBook Air (2010 and later)
• Mac Pro (2010 and later)
• iMac (Late 2009 and later)
• Mac mini (2010 and later)

Yeah I just came on because I thought you would be asking this question.

It's pretty much the same but of course some applications are not fully compatible.. well I only noticed one of the applications I mainly use crashes when using a feature but that's about it and i'm sure it will get fixed soon.

What you won't be able to do is use iTunes 2.6.2 on Mac OS High Sierra, you have to use iTunes version 12.7 (latest) and above. It will just give you an error message at launch and not let you do anything but play music but when you press 'ok' it closes, not letting you use it. Meaning you won't have access to downloading apps through iTunes.

The OS itself is pretty much the same just with some small new features that I haven't and won't use.  

So.. should you update? Well if you want to, there's nothing that you will use that will be different most likely. So if you have nothing to lose, update.

You'll have to update CleanMyMac 3 to the latest version to use it.

Oh wow. They're discontinuing 32-bit support on Mac also?

Yep soon. All Mac App Store Apps submitted next year have to be 64-Bit apparently.
