Save, exit and delete the game.

Install the original, pick up supplies and put them in the chests.

Uninstall the game, install the mod and create what you want.

Repeat the process when you are duplicating or creating items.

no its saves where you left off but it wont load unless you uninstall the mod and use the app store version to empty your inventory and die so you spawn straight into your base

exactly, ive been doing this for hours with no problems, just dont build anything that you could build without mod, like anything with items you cant get yet like different metals other than iron or different woods other than pine the game will crash and the save will basically be useless

so when i load and use the mod for the first time i have to start again a new game? as it won't load the saved data and just cashes.

On your current save put all your stuff in a crate kill your self respawn delete the game download mod restore data you will spawn at your base with nothing on hand build up your base duplicate your items when your ready to go out and get more stuff or level up delete the mod install from App Store and play, when you need to duplicate or build again place your stuff in a crate at your base kill your self respawn reinstall the mod rinse wash repeat
