if you can get ahold of Photoshop I would prefer you to get it instead of using gimp. Gimp limits you and really isn't all that good

Well, if you are good then it doesn't matter if you use Gimp or Photoshop, but it's better to practice on the best possible software

Yeah, like you said, you can do do GFX with anything if you're good.

True you can be good with anything and I'm just going the comparing the two software gimp does has it limits and if you were to ask any graphic designer what software he uses I bet nine times out of ten he would say both photoshop and illustrator

I agree. I managed to get a cracked copy of cs6 but it won't run on my computer. I can't find a copy of cs5 that isn't a virus.
