Super Mario Run is coming to iPhone and iPad on December 15

Apple dropped quite a bombshell at its iPhone 7 event two months ago when it announced Super Mario would be coming to the iPhone in the form of a brand new endless platformer specifically designed for one-handed gaming, called Super Mario Run.

 

 Nintendo Later Promised launch in time for holidays and today the Japanese gaming giant officially confirmed the game’s price point and release date.

 

 

Super Mario Run is scheduled to hit the App Store on November 15 as a free download for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch with an optional $9.99 upgrade to give you unrestricted access to the game’s three modes.

 

 

Once you try elements of these modes for free, you can gain unlimited access in exchange for a one-time $9.99 upgrade via the In-App Purchase mechanism.

 

 

“The wait is almost over for a Super Mario game that can be played on mobile devices,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

 

 

Developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario Run brings a new take on beloved action-platforming gameplay to iOS for the first time.

I get the hype around the IP coming to handheld devices and it's portability but why do literally everyone of the developers have to shift to the generic Pay-To-Play. An argument would be "well developers need money". I support the argument but the need to pay just to continue the fun or the game? Like the story-mode games on the AppStore? Kind of messed up.

I agree.. not a very attractive model for gaming...
