Making game assists for Client-Server based games is impossible or very hard?

Hey there guys,

 

So I got this question after reading other forums, which I will not talk about what they said here, and to me it seems making game assists for server sided games is very hard. But there are many ways to do so. So is hacking IAP, making bots, manipulating how much earned after completing a mission, injecting code, MS Hooks etc. actually hacking into a game server? Or just the client side of it?

 

I'm guessing most of the above is NOT ACTUALLY HACKING INTO THE SERVER but MANIPULATING the CLIENT-SIDE data. Could someone please verify if I'm right?

 

One more thing to talk about. I don't need anyone to tell me what methods work for hacking client-server games and going undetected because for obvious reasons. But I know that a hacker can exploit bugs, or flaws in an Anti-Hack system etc. Which could lead to ACTUALLY HACKING Into the server to be able to change their stored data.

 

So finally, DO THE GAME ASSIST TYPES I MENTIONED ABOVE MANIPULATE DATA FOR THE CLIENT-SIDE or INCLUDES DIRECTLY MANIPULATING SERVER-SIDE DATA?

And

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? I know some very smart game assist makers are registered on this website. MAKING GAME ASSISTS FOR CLIENT-SERVER GAMES IMPOSSIBLE OR JUST VERY HARD?

 

For me personally, I think it's just very hard. Plus, I'm talking about ONLY LEGAL METHODS here. Just cheating in a game. NOT PLANNING to do anything ILLEGAL and RISK criminal offences xD. That's it, not going to mention anything else or groups that can hack server stuff.

Depends on the game. There are games which are completely server-sided checked in all it's features. But, some, just do some checks on specific stuff.

 

Money, coins, game data, are likely to be stored in server side. But other features, small ones, (remember, it depends on the game), can be just local sided.

 

So, basically, if we are talking about a good company for developing games, they will store sensitive information, like money, in-app purchases, all server sided. But, there are some simple game, not well elaborated, that has no checks at all.

 

- Now, hack a server-sided feature, means to break trough the server, know how it works, if there is a game-server API, find some token to validate it, or if it's a REST API... anyway, this is not hacking, it's cracking, and it's crime, definetively.

Pretty much this. Simple values like time and health points are split in the chance that they are local.

We only hack client sided features. For hacking the server you'll need SQL Injection and so on and so forth

There are two types of onlines games 

one stores your info on their server and everytime you open the game it checks and proceeds according 

this is rare and puts a lot of burden on the servers

another type is they store basic and important info about you rest everything is stored onto your device Clash of clans is the best example

now you can hack the second type it wont be illegal bcoz you purchased the game and now owns its right to modification, and whatever changes you make would be to your own device and account 

The first type is illegal bcoz to change the in-game you have to change it from server itself which makes it unauthorized access
