Can I use the mod and get certain things from it and then return to the normal game with the same items i got from the mod?

Yes you should be able to retain the items if you placed them in the storage boxes/racks. Make sure that your progress is connected to Gamecenter so that when you install the "normal" game, you will be able to pick up wherever you left off. I do this all the time with mine so there should not be any issue in doing it.
