I saw all of these CreepyPastas in the first page of the General section, so I figured I'd make my own.

The cold, winter night breathed heavily against the window pane of my car. It permeated through the glass and blew freshly against my skin. It felt chilly, yet refreshing. I scrolled the windows down and let the cool breeze gush at my exposed face, rejuvenating my long lost drive to stay awake in the dreary lonesome.

I was driving down the highway, trying to get back home in time for bed, so that I could get ready for my job interview the next day. It was 11:59 PM, and I had to be at the office by 7 AM or else my interview would be cut short. It was not much of a problem, though, as there were no cars to be seen anywhere. It seemed strange, as this highway was usually quite busy, even at the dead of night. I casually brushed off the unusual feeling and continued down the road.

Along the way, I spotted a hitch-hiker, who looked worse for wear. As I got closer, I noticed that his jacket was tattered and torn to shreds, as if something was clawing at him. His clothes were ripped in several places, and the hitch-hiker's face displayed a sense of fear. No longer feeling the caress of the midnight breeze, and instead the pang of imminent danger, I swerved out of the way of the hitch-hiker in order to avoid him completely. The car jolted suddenly, treading as if it were riding through a valley of speed bumps. After a while, the bumps ceased. I looked back and noticed the hitch-hiker was standing in the middle of the road, facing me. His eyes changed from a look of fear to a look of anger. His eyes tore red with blood, and suddenly, he phased into smoke.

Having thought it was just my mind playing tricks on me due to my lack of sleep, I sped on through the night, unaware of the events that would take place after.

The radio was awfully quiet. I tuned it to my favourite station, which would always have the announcers talking about current events in a comedic fashion. It always brought a smile to my face and a laugh to my throat. Instead of the normal greeting, the radio started spurting out static noises. This was uncommon, cause the radio would always work on the highway. After a while (and a few moments of playing around with the tuner), the station came on and I was relieved. I listened in for the two announcers to greet me in the usual fashion, with some one-liners and a top story. What I got instead was something I wasn't prepared for.

The two announcers were talking, but there was something wrong about the way they were speaking. They weren't cracking jokes or talking about the current events, but instead were talking about fear and danger. It was as if they were warning people. As soon as that thought came over my head, the announcers suddenly spoke my name. They said it one more time, and issued a warning, seemingly directed at me. I was confused. How did they know my name? And what could they possibly be warning me about? After repeating the warning for a few minutes, the radio once again cut to static, and then stopped working altogether.

As if that wasn't bad enough, looking along the snowy side-walk, barely illuminated by a dimly lit street-lamp that glowed a dull orange, I saw the same hitch-hiker from a few hours ago. This time, the man had scars and bruises lining up on his face. His eyes were gouged out, and he wore no clothes. His body was splashed with cuts and stab wounds. Some even looked hideously fresh. Who was this man? I decided that it was best not to pull over, so I quickly accelerated down the road without looking straight at him. To my shock, as I passed him nonchalantly with the speed at a decent rate, the man ran onto the road and jumped in front of my car. I hit him with a thick thud and the car wretched back and forth as his now deceased body rummaged through the snow underneath my black tires. Looking at my rear-view mirror, my wheels were trekking blood all over the road. The police were sure to catch me if I came into town with blood all over my wheels. I quickly pulled over on the side of the road to clean the wheels with an old rag in my glove compartment.

I stepped out of my car and wistfully jotted over to the nearest wheel. As I was cleaning it, I heard a soft moan coming from behind me. I turned around and saw a darkened figure standing in the middle of the road. It looked like a shadow that had taken the form of a human. Its' head faced my direction, and I could faintly make out a sly grin. I saw teeth protruding from within the smile, and noticed that they were extremely pale white and sharp. Not wanting to deal with any more unusual situations, I stopped wiping my tyre and cautiously re-entered my vehicle. Slowly, the figure started moving towards me.

At this point, I was properly scared. There's a mysterious figure standing on the middle of the road, looking like a shadow. And it was moving towards me. The figure started to move faster as I fumbled around for my keys. They had to be here somewhere. I quickly scoped the area. The figure was now meters away from the car. Looking around, I opened the glove compartment and found a shiny, metallic object. My keys. I grabbed them and sped off with impressive swiftness, leaving the cloaked figure behind in the dust.

I heaved a sigh of relief, having survived an encounter with a possible threat. To my joy, I saw bright lights in the distance. Thinking that it was a city, I decided to head straight for it. I surged across the road in light-speed, racing to reach the city before anything else happened. It was at this moment where my head blanked out.

Few days later, I woke up in the hospital, with a large gash on my head and a broken leg. Wondering what had happened, I called for a nurse. I asked her about how I ended up in the hospital. She said that while I was driving down the road, I did not detect an oncoming vehicle on the road. I rammed straight into the opposing car, and fell unconscious. When I asked who the other driver was, she said it was a man. At the time, he was wearing a jacket. The nurse added that the jacket was found with scratch marks all over it, with a few tears here and there. I asked if he was OK, and the nurse simply said 'He's dead.'

The nurse said that when police found his body, his face was battered and bruised, as if he had been in a scuffle, and both of his eyes were gouged out from the impact. What the nurse said was strange was that the police also found stab wounds and large lacerations thrown all over the man's body. Could it be that the man I killed is the same man from the highway?

To this day, I do not know who the man is or how he appeared in the highway. I just know that if you happen to be on a highway at 11:59 PM, and there aren't any cars around, just turn around.
