Game center sync works for me for some games and not others. Some times you have to wait and a pop up will say something like it found another game and do you want to keep the current game or load the one saved. Also make sure the icloud/game center settings are enabled inside the game itself. It doesn’t always turn on. Oh and of course make sure the game center ID is the same across your apple devices.

I know you can definitely use Xcode (free from the apple app store, but its mainly for developers/programmers, so its a bit much just to install that and edit a little plist file lol). If you feel that's too advanced for you I would recommend just googling "plist editor mac" and grab something free.
