If I create a new canvas and fill it from top to bottom with text ( not large text mind you).

Like this.

Then I make a new layer with a random image and create a clipping mask.

How can I remove the image and leave the text in the shape, or better remove half the image while leaving half the text and maintaining shape.

Thanks in advance.

Edit:

I would probably be better off by making a pattern lol.
