General iMac or MacBook Pro?

So.......... I have a Macbook Pro 13' Mid-2012 (2.5 GHz Intel Core i5) so basically I've been using this laptop for 4+ years and I think an upgrade is acceptable.

 

Should I buy:

1. iMac - 21.5 inch ($1299)

    2.8GHz quad‑core Intel Core i5

 

or

 

2. MacBook Pro w/ Touch Bar - 13 inch ($1799)

    2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i5?

 

Reason to buy:

My laptop is getting really laggy and I'm seeing the rainbow circle more often now. I work in the finance industry. Basically, my most used program is Microsoft Office. 

But I do a side job as a Freelance Graphic Designer. I use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. A little use of Adobe After Effect and Final Cut Pro (rarely use this app but would love to have the option of having it in case I need to edit a video).

 

 

Which one should I buy?

Or should I just stick with my current laptop?

 

 

P.s. no matter which one I buy, I would still use my current laptop. The difference is that if I buy the iMac, my current laptop is obviously my To-Go laptop. If I buy the new MacBook Pro, the new one is the To-Go one for it is lighter.

No point really for having 2 laptops. You may aswell get the iMac. It's cheaper & the GHz are literally almost the same

IMAC because it bigger screen bigger resolution and it not very different from MacBook Pro. So IMac. !!!!!

 

 

 

P.S. I prefer regular pc because in this price you can buy like high end pc. You can run photo shop faster that IMac and MacBook Pro!

I'd take the macbook pro, since you're using it for work. You can easly move it around it any situation. Exemple : work at that coffee shop down your street.

I'd get the Macbook Pro for the portability. The heft of internet protocols will continue to get bigger and more complex. You don't want to have your current Macbook so choked it becomes useless. And you'll defiantly want a laptop that can handle the future for a good long time, which your current one will just experience more slowdown as time goes on.

 

You can install linux on your 2012 and have a dev machine for fun projects. And the new Macbook Pro for every day computing.
