I can vouch. This works occasionally depending on the dragon. If it's not working with one dragon (crashes when giving you gems) try with another. And if the giving gems part isn't working switch dragons and try killing and reopening the app.

well I got it to work now. I just had to click through everything really fast and place the dragon before it crashed. Now the gems stuck with my game even after it crashed
