Edit: it's not permanent; everytime you restart game you have to modify and lock the file again

Im aware. The game is server-sided, so when you modify a value such as that, when the game checks the files and notices a change. It will replace/update that file. Which is why you can only trick the game into thinking you can Contribute as much as you want, because the Karma and Zel are your Actual Karma/Zel Values

It won't work for me

Make sure you have enough Karma or Zel to even Contribute.. find the "Correct" Value.. Modify and Lock.. you may or may not get a dialogue saying you hit limit, just pres no and keep contributing.
