Help/Support Does App Data get saved in an iTunes backup?

For example if I have GTA 3 and i backup to iTunes will my save games be transferred when I restore it?

Apps and app data are separate. App data is stored on your iPhone and included with your iPhone's backup. App data is not included with the app in your iTunes library.

If you backup your iPhone on your computer direct with iTunes, the backup is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process. If you don't want your iPhone's backup stored on your computer, keep backing up your iPhone with iCloud instead. 

 

If you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, any apps downloaded and installed direct on your iPhone will not be copied to your iTunes library the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes but the app data included with the backup will be done wirelessly with iCloud. 

 

iTunes also includes an option to automatically download apps, music, and books that were downloaded direct with your iPhone. 

 

3rd party app settings and data created and stored by an app is not stored with the app in your iTunes library.
