You may get an option to save user data but always good to have backups. Especially when a virus is involved.

ok gotcha. when i take the new PC out of the box, is there anything I need to do besides install the anti virus software? Like any other programs or things I should get for the new comp to set it up properly?

Install the antivirus, and install her most used programs she needs and use official sources to download them.

i have no idea if she's watching pron, lol, i'd like to not have that visual image in my brain.lol. What happened is she clicked a fake email link and even though the technician "fixed" the issue, the hackers still accessed her stuff the next day. While she was in the middle of working with colleagues on Zoom. Super embarassing for her. I just worry this PC isn't fixable, which is why i'm just going to get her a new one

It's quite fixable with a simple reset/format. May not even be necessary to buy a new PC just for this.

Format can either be reset, or a complete format/reinstallation of Windows by using a Windows USB/DVD.

Resetting is easier if you just search "Reset this PC" on Windows Start Menu.

just tried to do a reset and received this message. My mom is freaking out. Can someone please help?

You could go to the Virus & Threat protection in settings of Windows and click on Scan options. Choose the "Microsoft Defender Offline scan" and give that a try.

Could you also check if there any remote access tools installed on the PC? Like teamviewer, etc. From what you wrote, it seems like they granted remote access to the PC using the credentials the program provides.

Urgent!! Yes she uses team viewer and has to for work. How can she prevent this from happening in the future?
