How does this feature work "- Automatic app refreshing. Sideloadly will automatically refresh your apps every few days to prevent them from expiring!"

does the phone have to be plugged in so that it loads onto your device? on my laptop yesterday it said it automatically refreshed... so was this done over wifi? as before i would have to plug in & manually do it every 7 days which kinda annoyed me..
