Recently I have been using this app for my iPad but have found apps that would normally have support for the iPad and it’s screen size but these ones don’t. Is there a way to tell?

There is no real way to tell from what I know. Perhaps the App Store mentions it on the app's page?

Usually, if an app isn't iPad optimized, iOS will give you a supersized iPhone app version.
