Help/Support Clash Of Clans DNS Server Help

Hi not so long time ago I tried to get on a custom COC server. The guy that found the DNS said I should go to Disk>etc>host and open the host file with text viewer. So I went in to Disk>etc only to find that I had no "host" file the only thing with host i Had was a thing called Host.equiv so I made my own host file (format was regular file) and I typed in "game.clashofclans.com (DNS)" and then I tried to launch clash of clans but it went back on the normal server! + i didn't get that message that said downloading content and then loading.

Any idea why and how to fix this?

Please help me.
