Hey brother, fruit trees use to work perfectly without an error message and all the tricks would work but now i can't seem to ripen the trees without getting an error message. However you can upgrade buildings and clear forests using the freeze option successfuly.

You can instantly upgrade them using the freeze option , having the required crowns to upgrade of course, you won't lose any.
