everytime I go root on terminal (on my iphone) and type some code or something that a tutorial tells me to type nothing happens! what am i doing wrong?

anything i put a command in and it doesn't activate or something

 like you login into root that does something so other do something too maybe you just do something wrong?

for example I follow the insructions on this 

then I enter root after downloading everything then type the command $THEOS and what not but then nothing happens
