Dang. I'm scratching my head here. Are you careful to only craft items that are available on your lvl? For example, you can't craft a doormat until you're lvl 18.

That's all I can think of. 

Another thing I do is make sure not to have too many coins. I read somewhere that you shouldn't go over 5k coins. Not sure if that's true or not, but I'm erring on the safe side and only keeping around 150 coins. 150 is all I really need, since they increase with energy refills for getting around the map and with skipping raider quests. Every time I skip the raider quests, I go over to my campfire and speed up the cooking process for a bunch of turkeys.
