It's 6.0.1 — I tried to use KingRoot, but it put me in a queue that did nothing.

Well, then. Im sorr youre out of luck.

if it was MTK device, i could help you but it isnt. Sooo,sorry. Apparently, you cant even use a custom recovery unless you unlock bootloader and thats not possible, YET

Google search, first hit in XDA. Follow this to T and it should work. (as usual device may get bricked).
