It's 6.0.1 — I tried to use KingRoot, but it put me in a queue that did nothing.

Well, then. Im sorr youre out of luck.

if it was MTK device, i could help you but it isnt. Sooo,sorry. Apparently, you cant even use a custom recovery unless you unlock bootloader and thats not possible, YET

Uh, he has another Android phone.

It's another LG, but it's 5.1.1. Will it work on this phone? Idk what kind it is :|

Google search, first hit in XDA. Follow this to T and it should work. (as usual device may get bricked).

It's a spare phone. He'll be okay. Lol.
