Hello.

So as some of you may know, I've recently had my USB "corrupted" or whatever happened to it and managed to save an important file from that USB before I had to format it.

But it came to me, what really causes USBs to corrupt?

I mean I hadn't used up the whole 1GB on the USB so what caused it to corrupt? Doubt there'd be any viruses since I've only downloaded files from my college site... and made my own files...

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks

I have no idea :shrug: people such as Amuyea and Kizzy were saying it's probs corrupt but I don't know...

I mean I had 2 documents up from the USB and soon as I clicked on one of the documents, it crashed the documents and made it make me format it

Ah. Well if you're wondering what could corrupt USB's there's many things.

Here's one thing, "One of the most frequent reasons for USB flash drive data loss is removing the media from the computer or other device incorrectly. The most common result from doing so is logical file system damage. Typically, in this situation your drive is not actually damaged even though your data is lost. But in some rare cases, the unsafe removal can also damage cells, which hold internal flash drive information, and cannot be accessed or repaired by operating systems. To extract information after this kind of failure you need help from a data recovery services professional. For this reason, it is very important to safely remove the device from the system and never unplug a USB flash drive while it is reading or writing information."

That whole paragraph is very true, although I never safely remove my usb's, I don't bother sometimes, I guess I'm lucky.

I'm ALWAYS making sure I safely remove the USB don't ask me why but I guess I had some sort of issue that one day I'd go corrupt and I'd lose all my work .

I have no idea what caused my USB to corrupt and I'm scared of using it again since now it's formatted :s

Well, if you reformatted the USB, I do not think so. In most cases it's actually the files getting corrupted within the usb that mess things up. Happened to me before too. Maybe try putting a test file in the USB for a day or so and see what happens? If all is good, put your files back into it. Also, try to make a backup of all your important files on the usb.

It was only 1GB so I used it for college work etc.

Yeah I might consider using it again
