Yes it does! It always get reset whenever the enemies hit you. It's been like that ever since the 2 old hacks before this current one.

If you're concern about not getting a 3 stars on your normal/hard missions because you weren't able to reach the combo needed..

 

I suggest just turn on your God Mode.. turn off One Hit Kill and you just need to bring the RIGHT character who can do the job.

 

I suggest range Character but with burst on nearby/surrounding enemies in case they come close to your character.. with range you can have that distance between you and the enemy while attacking.. and not get hit..

 

Just play smart bud! When I started playing the game back then with no hacks.. I was able to complete the stars with just the starter Ichigo.. I don't get it why you can't now?
