General How do hacks work in general?

I've seen a lot of talk about whether or whether not a certain hack could be done? Is this decided by how much information is stored server-sided and on the device? And why do companies not just save everything server sided? Would like some answers, as I'm pretty nooby in hacking.

I decide whether it could be done based on what the app looks like and the company its made by. Servers also cost money, not every company has that much money to spend on a server

Damn is it the real Shmoo? I got some of your tweaks installed, didn't expect to find you here have you considered taking a look at Battle Camp? The existing hacks seem to be outdated, back in 2014 there were some Flex hacks, which were pretty nice as you could enter values yourself.
