This is also a reply to chiodos:

Once I modified the backup via ibackupbot I tried to use the restore function and got stuck with error code -1 so I tried to use the restore function in itunes (next to backup option used in an earlier step) and it worked Never got the restore function working via ibackupbot.

Also if you have already created a channel name in your own saved game you can just uninstall then reinstall the app (before step 1) then following your instructions I was able to use the custom save game and make it my own. Did it about 2-3 times just to verify and it worked every time
