Help/Support Is it possible to update to 8.3 from 7.1.1?

As the title says.

So I had to set up a new phone and what I did was I backed up the old phone (on iOS 7.1.1)

and I restored the new phone through that backup as a new phone and somehow it ran iOS 7.1.1 as well.

I didn't check the old iOS version of the new phone but it's highly unlikely for it to be running 7.1.1 as it was being used for quite some time by another person (secondhand phone).

Anyways, Did the full restore also included the iOS version ?

Did it overwrite or wipe the old iOS version and downgrade/upgraded it to 7.1.1?

Apparently, according to some sources it's possible to restore an iPhone using an iPad backup.

I have a backup of my jailbroken iPad (8.3)

and was wondering if it's possible for me to upgrade the iOS version of the iPhone to 8.3 through restoring as a new device with the iPad backup.

I know it sounds a bit far fetched and maybe both of the phones were coincidentally running on 7.1.1

(I've already jailbroken the phone in 7.1.1 to access some directory files to remove the restriction code)

I just want to "update" it to 8.3 to be able to download some certain apps.

I doubt it as apple doesn´t signed older iOS versions anymore

You cannot, as Apple has to sign the update for it to install. Maybe if the tool spoofs apple's response, but there is nothing like that on the web

I know that,they stop signing older iOS version shortly after a new one is released. I don't wanna update it to 9.4 because untethered JB isn't out yet. But my question is whether backing up a phone and restoring another phone through that backup would also include the iOS version.

because if that's possible I'd be able to "upgrade" the phone to iOS 8.3

9.3.3 JB is out. Just make sure you use the chinese version so you get the 1yr cert

An untethered isnt coming until ios 10 probably. The 9.3.3 is great though. Works beautifully. Semi untether so all you need to do is reboot phone to unjailbreak. And to rejailbreak just run the app again.

Again, when you restore, Apple automatically updates your fir are to latest

You can always plug in your phone to iTunes and check that "update available" pop up to check the newest version for your phone. I say your phone because I have an iPhone 4 and it won't update past iOS 7.2.1

The JB is only for 64 bit devices, iPhone 4 will NOT work
