Your school prob has some heavy firewall which blocks some suspicious connections.

So it is prob blocking the tunnel of the vpn.

Solution for this would be trying to connect the vpn using the method TCP On port 443 (Not sure if you have these options on ios)

Ok vpn is also banned in our school, so we put personal hotspots and share with friends , thats the only solution for us.
