But then you would have to worry about file hosts keeping the binary up, user's download speeds, direct download links etc

i think is fine just the way it is 12 MB is not that much at all.

i think is fine just the way it is 12 MB is not that much at all. 

Hint:

 

To lower the binary size as much as possible, once you type in "make package", then type in this:

 

 dpkg-deb -Z lzma -b _

 

It compresses the .deb using LZMA and you can lower the size down even more a few MBs.
