Looks like a binary to me but I'm on mobile right now. If you are using a computer it will show an application without file extension, then it's sure a binary

on iOS it doesn't have an extension so I guess it's a binary but how do I edit it

Shmoo made a tutorial on how to have a "mini" IDA on your iDevice. Check that.
