Help/Support how do i make changes to makefile on Ted mod menu

do i need as root(su) then  $THEOS/bin/nic.pl

i moved the tar into theos/template and it works because when I run  $THEOS/bin/nic.pl without root and with root(su)  I see ted2 on option 1
