I think it's all server sided now. Energy seems to deplete and so does the other currencies 😛

I dont know if it is related but the energy doesn’t decrease unless you claimed a quest that gives energy

I’m honestly fine with just the energy working. Unlimited diamond would be an overkill imo. It’s easier to earn as well just by being patient and doing events and daily quests.
