Help/Support Working with Offset and Patch

Hello,

I am a noob wanting to learn how to create mods for iOS games.

How can you know what the patch should be set to so you can get the desired result from an offset? For example, if I find the offset that controls upgrade costs in a game, how can I set it to return a value of 1 so upgrades are basically free, etc.
