Are Hooking and Patching Same?

    Hey everyone, New here but not to game hacking :D I know that in game hacking there is two ways of hacking patching and hooking, I have personally hacked more then one games for my self both by hooking and patching but what I really want to know is are they both the same(hooking == patching?) because in a way they are both using MSMemoryHooks or am I making a assumption that they both use hooks(MSMemoryHooks) and are not the same?.

     

    I would really appreciate it a lot, if someone with knowledge on this answered it :)
