Is the Max Creature Mastery Level feature currently not working, or is there something I'm missing?

Potentially looking for some assistance. Haven’t played in a bit. 
 

Max Creature level doesn’t seem to be working for me. I still have to level each creature up by feeding/bonding. Am I just doing something incorrectly? I couldn’t get it to work before when I played but just ignored it. Is there something I need to do to get it to max?
