Dont change the value. At the start of scavening, look into ur bag and lock the value, take as much as u want then unlock it and move on. To continue the hack u have to quit the game and do it again.

Yea it would be easier if we could just have a hack that gave you materials. It's definitely possible we just need a Good Samaritan to give us a hand
